Hi Sean, can a player carry the ball? ie. can a player catch the ball underhand with his/hers hands above the waist?

Jerry, yes. When the blackjack rule and the underhand only rule are played together, it is totally legal to catch the ball underhand. Though note that our underhand rules make no specification as to the waist level or not. Also, take a look at this blog post about how to hit the ball generally, it might be enlightening.
